rain barrel
workshops

We have some exciting changes for our Rain Barrel Program in 2026!

The Newport News Extension Master Gardeners (NNEMG) are now offering two (2) ways to conserve natural resources by harvesting rainwater from your own home and yard.

  • Workshops: Participants, working alongside NNEMG volunteers, will learn how to assemble their own barrel during a 60 - 90 minute workshop that includes a short presentation on conservation, rain barrel assembly and a brief introduction to other NNEMG projects and programs.  Rain Barrel workshop includes a food grade, 55-gallon barrel and parts for conversion.

  • Cost of the workshop:  $65.  Workshop begins at 10:00 am and concludes approximately at 11:30 am.

  • Assembled barrels – PICK UP ONLY:  For a small additional cost, customers may purchase preassembled barrels for pick up during the workshop time frame. Assembled Rain Barrel includes a food grade, 55-gallon barrel, and parts for conversion fully attached.

  • Cost for a fully assembled barrel:  $75.00. Barrels must be  picked up between 10:00 am to 11:30 am on the date selected.
