Do you love plants?! Join us for a community plant swap at the Main Street Library. Bring a plant, take a plant... but don't let that keep you from coming if you don't have a plant to share!
Bring your herbs, vegetables, annuals, native plants, shrubs, trees, houseplants to share.
Newport News Master Gardeners will be set up with resources to share, like helping you determine the best place for your new plant! We are always thrilled to answer your questions, hear your gardening stories, and help you find your green thumb.
This is a family friendly event!
Fall plant sale

Join the Newport News Master Gardener Association for our annual Fall Plant Sale on Saturday, September 26, from 9 AM to 4 PM. This is a one-day-only event and a wonderful opportunity to find unique plants while supporting local horticultural education.
Our annual fall sale is one of the best opportunities of the year to shop for native trees and shrubs, which thrive when planted in autumn as roots establish in cooler weather. We’ll also have a great selection of:
Native plugs & pollinator favorites (plug list coming in August)
Larger native plants
Houseplants
Ferns & hostas
Vegetables
Specialty garden finds
Expert Gardening Help On Site
Our Help Desk and Design Desk will be available during the sale to answer gardening, landscaping, and plant selection questions.

Proceeds from all plant sales support horticulture grants for Newport News public and private schools, as well as Master Gardener educational programming throughout our community.

Get ready for spooky fun at the FALL-O-WEEN Festival, a two-day, family-friendly celebration at Newport News Park on October 3 and 4. Enjoy live entertainment, Halloween-themed vendors, delicious food and drinks, a seasonal beer garden, kids’ activities, and festive fun for all ages!

The Newport News Extension Master Gardeners will be there with our Mobile Help Desk to answer your horticulture questions about fall gardening, winter sowing, and more. Stop by our booth for a fun kids’ activity and helpful tips and resources to keep your garden thriving this season.
Bring the whole family and enjoy a full day of fall fun, including pony rides, a petting zoo, giant inflatables, a hayride, food, games, and more!

Our Design and Mobile Help Desk will be on hand to give advice about using native plants in your yard as well as answering your general horticulture questions. We’ll join the city of Newport News to shed more light on sustainable landscaping, native plants, urban trees, and community. Discover simple ways to create healthier, greener, and more resilient landscapes throughout Newport News through hands-on activities, demonstrations, and local resources.
Mobile Help Desk at the Mariners' Museum Fall Festival

The Mariners’ Museum and Park Fall Festival offers family-friendly activities, pumpkin decorating, live music and more! The Newport News Master Gardeners will be there with information on what native plants are best for our area to support birds. and making pinecone bird feeders with the kids!
rain barrel workshops
Rain Barrel Workshops are designed to educate homeowners in the importance of water conservation and recycling while creating a rain barrel for use in their home landscape and gardens. Our workshops, held throughout the year, feature experts from Newport News Waterworks, Newport News Recycling Division, and Newport News Extension Master Gardeners.

vermiculture workshops
Ready to take your home gardening to the next level? Want to compost but don’t have room? Looking for a year round source of fertilizer? Vermiculture, or worm composting, may be the answer for you. Learn about the benefits of raising worms in your own home and walk away with your own complete worm composting bin. Your kids will LOVE this workshop!
