Got Plant or Pest Questions? We’re Here to Help! Visit the Extension Master Gardener Mobile Help Desk at the Hilton Village Farmers Market on the third Saturday of July, and August! Our trained volunteers are ready to answer your gardening questions with research-based, unbiased information you can trust. Pick up mosquito dunks (cash only) and learn safe, effective mosquito control tips to protect your family, pets, and pollinators with mosquito lure demos.
Mobile Help Desk at Newport News Paw paw festival

Our mobile help desk will be at Endview Plantation to join in the celebration for America’s largest native fruit. There will be lectures, booths from local environmental organizations (That's us!), nature trail tours, pawpaw resources and tastings that will provide educational and fun activities! Music and food will round out the offerings.

Fall plant sale

Join the Newport News Master Gardener Association for our annual Fall Plant Sale on Saturday, September 26, from 9 AM to 4 PM. This is a one-day-only event and a wonderful opportunity to find unique plants while supporting local horticultural education.
Our annual fall sale is one of the best opportunities of the year to shop for native trees and shrubs, which thrive when planted in autumn as roots establish in cooler weather. We’ll also have a great selection of:
Native plugs & pollinator favorites (plug list coming in August)
Larger native plants
Houseplants
Ferns & hostas
Vegetables
Specialty garden finds
Expert Gardening Help On Site
Our Help Desk and Design Desk will be available during the sale to answer gardening, landscaping, and plant selection questions.

Proceeds from all plant sales support horticulture grants for Newport News public and private schools, as well as Master Gardener educational programming throughout our community.

rain barrel workshops
Rain Barrel Workshops are designed to educate homeowners in the importance of water conservation and recycling while creating a rain barrel for use in their home landscape and gardens. Our workshops, held throughout the year, feature experts from Newport News Waterworks, Newport News Recycling Division, and Newport News Extension Master Gardeners.

Ready to take your home gardening to the next level? Want to compost but don’t have room? Looking for a year round source of fertilizer? Vermiculture, or worm composting, may be the answer for you. Learn about the benefits of raising worms in your own home and walk away with your own complete worm composting bin. Your kids will LOVE this workshop!
