A
soil test is an easy step in knowing what amendments are
needed to provide a healthy medium for plants to grow. This test will
provide you with the information concerning the condition of your soil and aid in
making wise fertilizer and soil amendment decisions. This test is
performed at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and
gives you information on soil texture, soil composition, pH, lime content, and available
phosphorus and potassium. Testing is recommended every 3 to 4 years.
Soil test kits are available from the Extension office at no charge. Lab
fees range from $3.00 to $10.00. Complete instructions are included with
the kit. Results of your test will typically be sent to you within 2
weeks.
