Below is a listing of gardening related events open to the public.  These fun and educational happenings occur around the Tidewater and surrounding areas.  If you know of any events not listed, have questions about events or would like to list your event, please email or call the Extension Office (757-591-4838).  All links open in new pages.

Newport News Master Gardeners Speakers Bureau offers knowledgeable speakers on horticultural matters.  To discuss a topic and schedule a speaker, call 591-4838.

Gardening in the Park Series:  A series of FREE gardening workshops for children ages 5-8 presented by VCE Newport News Master Gardeners.  Each program will be held on a Saturday from 11:00 am-noon, weather permitting, at the Master Gardeners' Grin & Grow  Garden located in the Riverview Farm park.  For more information, contact Peggy Fox at 591-4838.
  • May 10th.  Worms at Work.  Learn how worms can eat your garbage and turn it into amazing plant food.  You'll also learn how to make compost from kitchen scraps and dead leaves in your own small compost bin.  Kids will also get to pot a plant for Mother's Day.
  • June 7th.  What's in Mr. MacGregor's Garden?  We'll be exploring vegetable gardening in this workshop.  Find our how plants grow from seed to flower and then grow your own vegetables.
  • September 13th.  Winged Wonders.  Learn about butterflies and the flowers they love.  Discover what makes them special and how you can bring them into your yard.
  • October 11th.  Hibernate or Prepare to Survive.  This program focuses on how animals and birds get ready for winter.  Children will make their own special bird feeder from pine cones and bird seed.
