Mission statement: The mission of the Newport News Master Gardener Association is to foster communication, education and fellowship among its volunteer members. The primary role of the association is to serve its members. This is accomplished through continuing education opportunities, i.e. speakers at monthly meetings; recreational and social gatherings such as day trips to botanical gardens and picnics; and fundraisers such as plant sales to make it possible for members to attend conferences and to cover operating costs. Joining the NNMG Association is a personal choice. Membership is encouraged, as this is an excellent way to become better acquainted with fellow volunteers in the unit. Let's face it, once the kids have grown and/or you've retired from a career it can be challenging to meet others who share the same interests as you. All work and no play makes for volunteer service that can seem more like a job than fun. |
